Ecoflow Power Kits: the future of solar installations
Introduction
As you know, in our RoadTrip life we use an Ecoflow Delta battery, which we were able to test in an article on the site. The company had established a formidable position in the mobile battery market, offering a reliable, easy-to-use, high-performance product. Some time later, they released an even more nomadic range, but also much more powerful batteries, which can even be used to power a house for a few hours and already start saving money.
Two weeks ago we were contacted by Ecoflow to preview their latest product. The venue was on our route, and the dates coincided perfectly. We were going to be able to get close to this product that the company had been keeping secret.
The current problem with a solar system
Let’s face it, whether you’re buying a van, camper van, caravan or house, it’s rare, if not impossible, to be connected to solar power by default, or with an installation that deserves an upgrade in any case. As this technology is new (especially for high-performance installations), if you want solar power, you have to learn how to install it yourself or call in an expert.
And as I explained in the various articles about our installation, in the end there are no fewer than 8 different products (excluding solar panels) to install for our daily energy needs. And now we’re talking about a Van installation. For a house, it’s even more important.
That’s the big drawback of a solar installation in our eyes. And Ecoflow had already grasped this with its nomadic batteries, as they had succeeded in integrating the many components of an installation.
All they needed to do was reproduce this for stationary applications.
Plug & Play solar power
This is the tour de force achieved by the Chinese company (yes, it’s Chinese…). 72% of solar panels come from Asia, 3% of batteries are made in Europe), the Ecoflow Power Kits are simple, smart and compact. It’s a station in which fuses, charger/converter, charge regulator, alternator charger and many other components are integrated.
Technical specifications
The Power Hub
It’s the heart of the Kit, so it does the job of the MPPT (charge regulator), but also of the converter charger, capable of delivering both AC and DC current in 220/230 or 48v. There are sockets for up to 3 batteries, and the last port can be connected with an adapter to an Ecoflow Pro… yes, you can recharge your Ecoflow battery directly thanks to the car charging port adapter.
The batteries
Two types of battery can be added to your Power Kit: 2kWh and 5kWh. The batteries can heat up themselves even if you’re in a too-cold environment, preserving the stability of the chemistry. So yes, depending on your use, it’s important to know what energy storage you’ll need. It’s a good thing they’ve created a configurator to calculate your needs on this page.
Solar panel inputs
Of course, you can connect your solar panels to your kit in an extremely simple way and mount up to 3000W.
Monitor, management console or Ecoflow app
A control panel shows you all the information about your battery, and if you don’t want to go to the control panel, you can use mobile applications, just like the other products in the Ecoflow range.
Our first impressions
As you’ll see in the video, we were ultra-hyped by what we discovered during the presentation of this product. To tell the truth, it’s exactly the kind of product we’ve been waiting for. Installation in a Van or even a house will be within the reach of many more people. And even for professionals wishing to install this type of kit, the installation price can almost be reduced. What we really felt about this product was its ease of installation and use. Everything seems well thought out, and as they wrote in their presentation, yes, it’s Ultra Smart.
This ease of installation means you can even have a system that you move from your home to your leisure vehicle, so there’s no need to buy duplicates. I think that’s really something.
