Electric Autonomy VanTour Team 11 min

Introduction

Welcome to this new test dedicated to the second battery sent to me by the brand Aferiy. Today, we are discovering together the brand new Aferiy P280, a next-generation portable power station that will be released at the end of November 2025.

This P280 fits between the P210 (2400 W) and the P310 (3600 W). In its base version, it already offers a nice power of 2800 W for 2048 Wh, but (and this is where it gets interesting) its capacity is fully expandable thanks to expansion batteries that allow it to reach up to 10 240 Wh!

In short, we have here a versatile portable battery, designed for both home use and camping or long outdoor getaways. (I feel like we’re going to have fun pushing it to its limits!)

What is the Aferiy brand?

Aferiy, what is it? It’s a young and ambitious brand, specializing in portable energy solutions and mobile solar panels. Its goal: to offer reliable, powerful, and accessible products to all those who want to gain energy autonomy.

What distinguishes Aferiy is its strong commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability. The brand designs its stations with lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) batteries, known for their stability and exceptional longevity. They are paired with intelligent management systems (BMS) that ensure optimal protection against overheating, overcharging, or excessive discharging.

Since its recent creation, Aferiy is gradually establishing itself as a promising player in the portable energy station market. Its products cater to both individuals and adventurers: home, camper van, vanlife, or outdoor outings. The idea is to offer clean, practical, and always available energy, regardless of the context.

Discovery of the Aferiy P280

Unboxing and Contents

The Aferiy P280 arrived in double packaging: a sturdy transport box containing the main battery box. Inside, we discover the energy station carefully protected, accompanied by its accessories.

As with the P210, Aferiy provides a very practical protection bag for transport and a storage pouch containing the two essential cables: the AC power cable (220V) and the adapter cable for connecting to solar panels.

And this is where we notice a small difference between Aferiy and other brands I have tested. The solar connector XT90 used here is slightly larger than that of some competing brands. In other words, if you already own several stations from different brands, you should know that this cable may not be compatible between them. Nothing serious, but it’s good to know!

First Look at the Battery

Visually, the P280 looks a lot like the P210. You can clearly feel the continuity of the design, sober and functional, dear to Aferiy. The difference? It is a bit more massive, but not by much. Moreover, when stacked, and as you can see in the photo, the P210 sits just above the P280, proof that the evolution remains compact despite the increase in power.

A first visible difference is found on the upper part: the P210 had a plastic storage lid, practical on paper but that, personally, I didn’t really use (the provided pouch is more than enough to store the cables). The P280, on the other hand, has eliminated this compartment for simplicity.

The biggest change is on the side of the 220V sockets. The P210 offered two outputs, while the P280 now offers three. The protective cover has also evolved: gone is the rigid plastic, replaced by a silicone cover, more flexible and durable. And where Aferiy had an excellent idea is in the direction of opening this hatch. On the P210, it opened upwards (not super practical when the battery is placed on the ground). On the P280, it opens downwards, allowing direct and more ergonomic access. (Finally, a simple but effective improvement!)

On the other side, we find the AC and solar charging inputs. This time, there are two solar input ports, as it allows connecting two solar panels simultaneously to reach up to 1200W input. A nice evolution that makes solar charging even faster and more flexible.

On the front, the layout remains close to the P210: two USB-A ports, four USB-C ports (two of which can deliver up to 140W!), as well as a cigarette lighter output. We also find the famous integrated lamp, with its three modes (fixed lighting, SOS in Morse, and flashing). Honestly, I never really used this function on the P210, but it has the merit of being there for emergencies.

The LCD screen remains simple and clear, displaying essential information: power consumed, remaining autonomy, type of input or output. We will come back to this later in the test.

Design and General Impression

We stick to a minimalist and robust design, true to Aferiy’s philosophy. No unnecessary frills, but a solid, well-thought-out construction focused on efficiency. This is typically the kind of product that prefers to focus on performance and competitive pricing rather than flashy style.

The P280 weighs 21.6 kg, which is quite reasonable given its capacity of 2048 Wh and its power of 2800 W. (We are clearly in the category of serious stations, not mini camping batteries!) Fortunately, Aferiy had the good idea to keep, as on the P210, two sturdy side handles that allow it to be easily lifted with two hands. This detail is not trivial: being able to distribute the weight between the arms also helps avoid straining your back when moving it — and thus avoid the classic Sunday morning lumbago!

What are the strengths of the Aferiy P280?

Let’s start with the most obvious: the quality/price ratio. In a market where prices are constantly changing and competition is fierce, the Aferiy P280 clearly stands out as a reference in terms of accessible performance. It positions itself in a strategic segment with a power of 2800W for a capacity of 2048Wh, and an extension possibility of up to 10 240Wh thanks to its additional modules.

But its advantages don’t stop there:

  • LiFePO₄ Battery: the P280 features lithium iron phosphate cells, known for their safety and longevity. More than 4000 charge cycles are announced, while retaining 80% of the original capacity. Let’s just say you can use it for over ten years without worry.
  • 7-Year Warranty: an extremely rare point in this field, proof of the confidence Aferiy places in its equipment.
  • Versatility of Use: whether you are camping, in a van, or at home, the P280 adapts to everything. Its extension capacity allows it to switch from “nomadic” mode to a true home storage system.
  • Ultra-fast Charging: up to 1800W via AC socket, allowing a full charge in about 1h30 (2048Wh ÷ 1800W ≈ 1.13h).
  • Double Solar Input: two PV connectors allow connecting multiple panels up to a total of 1200W, making it ideal for autonomous solar use.
  • App and Bluetooth: convenient remote control to monitor charging, consumption, or operating parameters without having to lean over the screen.

What are the weaknesses of the Aferiy P280?

Because no product is perfect, here are a few points to note:

  • The LCD Screen: it is large, that’s true, but its definition is limited. The icons look dated, and the pixels are a bit too visible to the naked eye. We would have liked a more modern and precise display, especially on such a well-designed product.
  • Sober but uninspired Design: true to Aferiy’s minimalist philosophy, but one could hope for a slightly more upscale look.

Aferiy P280 Battery Test

Charging Test

To test the P280, I started by connecting it to my solar panels on the balcony. Result: about 200W input, which corresponded well to the current lighting conditions. When plugged into AC, the battery absorbed up to 1800W without flinching. As mentioned earlier, this allows for a complete recharge in just over an hour, which is really excellent for a battery of this capacity.

Discharge Test

Next, I wanted to see what it had in store during discharge. I connected several devices at the same time:

  • An iPad via USB-A
  • Two power banks via USB-C
  • Drone battery chargers via 220V
  • An electric scooter via 220V
  • And finally, a hairdryer at nearly 2000W

Result: the battery didn’t flinch. Even under full load, it delivered the requested power without going into safety mode. During the minute and a half of using the hairdryer, the P280 remained perfectly stable. A great demonstration of controlled power.

Autonomy and Concrete Examples

Here are some estimates based on its capacity of 2048Wh:

Device Power Usage Duration
Kettle 1500W ≈ 1h15
Coffee Machine 800W ≈ 2h30
Microwave 700W ≈ 2h50
Refrigerator 150W ≈ 10–12h
Laptop 65W ≈ 25–28h
Smartphone 20W ≈ 90–95h

This versatility makes the Aferiy P280 a complete solution, suitable for both everyday needs and emergency situations. A portable energy station that combines power, reliability, and practicality with a very competitive pricing position.

Aferiy Mobile App

I was quite surprised to see on the box that this P280 could be connected to an Aferiy mobile app! And honestly, I thought: “Ah, finally!” (Those who follow me know how much I love being able to control my batteries via an app, especially when you’ve tasted that of a certain competing brand…)

Without further ado, I rush to the App Store, type “Aferiy,” and indeed find an app of the same name. Perfect, I think. I download it, create an account, and start scanning for devices around me. The app asks me to enable Bluetooth; so far, nothing unusual. But impossible to find any “Bluetooth” button on the battery. (I start to think I missed something.)

So I contact my partner at Aferiy, who replies that I need to update the app. Well, I check, and I have the latest version. And then I think: “OK, we’re going to pull out the big guns” – I pull out the user manual. And what do I discover? A QR code pointing to another app… named Bright EMS. Nothing to do with Aferiy!

So I download Bright EMS, recreate an account, start the scan… and miracle! The battery is immediately recognized. (Yes, I let out a big sigh of relief.)

So, a little question: why two different apps? Is the brand planning to merge or rename its official app? Mystery. But at least, it works.

In terms of usage, the app allows you to remotely control the battery via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (note, only on 2.4 GHz or on a multi-frequency network). You find all the commands present on the battery: activating outputs, monitoring charge, consumption, port status, etc. In summary, you don’t necessarily gain new functions, but you can monitor and manage your P280 without getting off the couch. (And just for that, it’s already very convenient.)

Is the Aferiy P280 Noisy?

So, to be honest, at the very beginning I had a little moment of panic. When I turned on the Aferiy P280 for the first time, it suddenly started ventilating quite loudly! I thought: “This
