Today, we’re back to talk about Reolink. As you know, we’re partners with the brand, but that doesn’t stop us from being objective when discussing their products. In fact, we’ve often declined receiving one of their products because we didn’t have a need for it. This time is different because we will be partially settled for the year and needed to monitor a part of our home during our absence. We won’t be using this Reolink like a security camera for a camper van like the Argus 2E, but to keep an eye on the room housing our solar batteries.

Installation Test of the Reolink 4 Pro

Unboxing

I received the Bundle version from Reolink, which includes the camera, the solar panel, and its mount, eliminating the need to run a power/RJ45 cable to connect the camera to your network. This avoids drilling through walls, a significant advantage, but it also means you must stay within the range of your WIFI network. Keep in mind that your setup might not work if your WIFI fails tomorrow or if you switch to a less powerful router (which would be a shame!).

The camera itself once again boasts a high-quality design, perfect for those who appreciate a futuristic aesthetic. It closely resembles Apple’s VR headset, the Apple Vision; you almost feel like talking to the camera because it looks so much like a robot.

Connecting to the Camera

I agreed to receive this camera because where we are stationary, I plan to place it not inside my home but on the roof, where each co-owner has a closed space. This closed space is above our home since we are on the top floor, allowing me to test the wireless connection while being able to plug in the solar panel.

Connecting to the camera is even easier than installing the Argus 2A and Argus 3Pro, which I’ve previously done. Reolink has provided a solution to an issue I had. The two aforementioned versions only worked on a 2.4GHz WIFI network, while my modem offered both networks but all my devices were on 5GHz. The installation required configuring my phone to 2.4GHz to set up the camera, which was very problematic, especially for a novice.

I was delighted to see that with the 4 Pro, you can connect it to 5GHz by default.

Wifi Connectivity and Intrusion Test

Once connected, I went to the roof, and the camera remained connected to my WIFI network without any issues (it’s not a WIFI6 network). I connected to the camera effortlessly and enabled notifications to proceed with the intrusion test.

It only took a few seconds for the notification to appear on the screen.
