Ecoflow Delta Pro: the ultimate storage battery
Introduction
This premium model from the brand is more than capable of powering any vanlifer, given its immense capacity. In fact, it can also be used as a backup battery for your home, and as the name suggests, for professional use. We’ll be providing you with a comprehensive review of this energy storage beast and see if it has any shortcomings.
What is the EcoFlow brand?
EcoFlow is a renowned company in the renewable energy industry, recognized for its commitment to crafting portable and sustainable energy solutions. With a diverse range of products, from portable power stations to solar panels, EcoFlow aims to deliver power anywhere and anytime, making life more comfortable while also playing a part in protecting our planet.
Discovering the Delta Pro
Unboxing
We simply can’t contain our excitement as we unveil the Ecoflow Delta Pro. The first thing that immediately catches one’s eye: it’s a colossus! Standing at about 16.5 inches tall, nearly 25 inches long, and tipping the scales at almost 99 pounds, this battery certainly commands attention. Clearly, we’re looking at a professional-grade piece here, intended for much heftier use than its smaller counterparts.
Yet, there’s a delightful revelation regarding its weight! It’s mounted on convenient castors and boasts a retractable handle at the front, ensuring its transport is relatively straightforward, despite its substantial heft. The package brims with an array of cables and accessories, the details of which you’ll find in the technical specifications towards the article’s conclusion. And, for the aficionados out there, there’s a cheeky nod to Star Wars in the guide. All in all, the Ecoflow team has outdone themselves once more, presenting a sleek, polished, and ultra-practical design, heightening one’s desire to get one’s hands on this marvel.
Quick Battery Overview
At first glance at the EcoFlow Delta Pro battery, its size strikes you – reminiscent of those desktop PCs, you know, the towers we lugged to LAN parties for battles before the days of widespread internet (a nod to the veterans out there). By all accounts, its durability is immediately evident, boasting a solid hard plastic shell. Hidden beneath this sturdy exterior is a rather impressive LCD screen up front, displaying a plethora of data like on our Delta 2: input and output power, battery status, error codes, and so much more. A nifty feature: it comes with an ambient light detector.
On the side, once you lift the cover, you’ll find the DC and AC charging ports, as well as a reset button. The display seems to spring to life as soon as you plug the device in. Just below, the DC charging area offers a range of USB ports, capable of delivering up to 100 watts. Plus, there are also 4 mains sockets.
Around the back? A lovely treat awaits with 12-volt sockets (the kind of car cigarette lighter socket familiar from other models in the range) and most notably, a port that’s unique and not found on any other battery within the EcoFlow universe.
Ultra-Fast Charging Port
The EcoFlow Delta Pro model has a well-hidden trick up its sleeve: it charges via electric vehicle charging stations. For those constantly on the move and frequently passing by these stations, it’s a boon, especially on those days when the sun is playing peek-a-boo. With an adapter, you can snag a full recharge in just 1.7 hours, thanks to the whopping 3400W the Delta Pro can swallow! This is truly a world first.
We come across thousands of Level 2 AC stations during our travels, so why not take advantage of them to top up our energy? It’s a notable innovation, although you’ll need a special adapter for this, available on their store and compatible with our Ecoflow discount & gift code!
Features and Test
The Battery
Let’s dive deep into the technical guts of the Ecoflow Delta Pro! Its heart, powered by Lifepo4 technology, pulses with an impressive capacity of 3600 Wh. This is a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, which boasts lightweight construction, swift charging, and sturdiness.
With up to 6,500 cycles, this little powerhouse promises long-lasting electrical autonomy. To put it plainly, even after daily use over a decade, it will retain 80% of its original strength.
Charging Test
Let’s discuss charging this Ecoflow Delta Pro battery. Right from the get-go, users have been quite taken aback! It was plugged in at around 29%, and the kilowatt counter showed an input of 727 watts. But that’s just until the battery realises it can take more! After a brief moment, the magic happens: it switches to fast charge mode X-Stream technology. And then, it’s speedy… we’re talking about 1200 watts.
his is what makes Ecoflow a champion: a 1200 watt recharge, the fastest in the world, completed in just 1h55. Can you imagine? From completely drained to full in less than two hours.
Fully charging an Ecoflow Delta Pro takes under 2 hours.
But that’s not all! If you’re on the move, you can use solar panels to charge it. With a power of 800 watts, your Delta Pro will be ready in 6 hours on a sunny day (yes, 6 hours of sunshine a day is mostly during summer, that’s a given). Nevertheless, it has an integrated MPPT regulator that optimises solar power throughout the day. And if you’re out and about, don’t fret! You can charge it as explained before via an EV charge point or in your vehicle using the car lighter port, but in the latter case, you’ll need to be really patient!
Discharge Test
After charging this Ecoflow Delta Pro beast, we wondered: “Now, how long will it last with intensive use?”. So, here’s the beast put to the test. On paper, it’s designed to cater to the needs of craftsmen, DIY enthusiasts, photographers, and even food truck owners.
Imagine being able to run a circular saw or a drill for three straight hours! With a capacity of 3,600 Wh, it’s geared up to power even your most demanding tools. And that’s not all: it provides 5 230V AC outlets, capable of accommodating devices up to 3,600W, even 4,500W with X-Boost mode, and up to 7,200W peak.
Let’s get to the testing part! Let’s see what it’s got. It was then hooked up with a heat gun and a hairdryer. Right off the bat, with the gun on low consumption mode, the battery displayed around 700 watts. But, to push it to its limits, the gun was cranked up to its maximum during this test, and the hairdryer was added. And then, surprise: the consumption shot up to 1,800 watts! and finally pushed to 1,950 watts. The battery didn’t flinch at all.
And what about the noise?
Noise, often the Achilles’ heel of electrical devices, is no longer an issue with the Delta Pro. Even in X-Boost mode, where it’s delivering a whopping 4500 watts, it remains remarkably quiet. No buzzing, no rumbling, just silent and efficient performance. The Delta Pro truly redefines standards when it comes to sound discretion. Well done.
But as you know, Ecoflow doesn’t just excel in hardware quality; their software is also pretty impressive. So, let’s move on to another asset of this machine, the mobile app.
The Ecoflow Mobile App
Let’s take a moment to discuss the Ecoflow app, the true brain behind the Delta Pro. Right from the start, you can sense that the Ecoflow ecosystem has been designed with meticulous attention to detail. As you know, Caroline and I have already tested their app with our Delta 2, and our powerstream, and frankly, it was great! And for the Delta Pro, it’s… well, it’s still just as great.
This app is more than just a simple interface. It turns out to be a genuine toolbox for anyone looking to maximise the Ecoflow experience. It offers real-time data: charge level, consumption, and still the possibility to play around with the charging speed, which is super crucial, especially if they are connected like ours to the plugs of the camper van.
This is the kind of tool that gives you absolute control over your electricity consumption while remaining intuitive and user-friendly.
The app is still incredibly intuitive! And believe us, when you’re on the road, it’s truly fantastic to be able to control everything easily from your smartphone.
