Description
The Reolink OMVI 3i WiFi combines a panoramic camera and a motorized module in the same housing. The idea is simple: you keep a wide view of the yard while the lower module turns towards a person, a car, or an animal. The network connection is via Wi-Fi; a permanent power supply is still necessary.
This sheet presents the verified characteristics of the WiFi model. No field test of this OMVI is confirmed here. The panorama and tracking promise complementary surveillance, but the accuracy of detection, night details, and motor reactions still require on-site testing.
Who is this camera for?
What I particularly like is its wide field of view. I see it in an outdoor installation at home, for the garden or the camper parked at home; I wouldn’t choose it for the inside of a camper. In a shed, the PoE version could also be a consideration. For a store, its bulk deserves reflection. This sheet indeed concerns the WiFi model, without PoE power supply.
It corresponds to a fixed installation around a house: driveway, yard, access to the garage, or garden. The panorama can keep several areas in view, while the adjustable camera observes a passage more precisely. You need to be able to pull its power supply and have a good Wi-Fi connection at the installation point (the signal behind a wall is not automatic).
If you are looking for a small autonomous camera to move from one stage to another, the 1.1 kg housing and the power adapter change the specifications. To monitor a camper parked in your driveway, this architecture has a possible use; for the cabin while traveling, look instead at the detailed needs in our comparison of cameras for campers.
Features to know
The three lenses produce two distinct video views. The upper block combines two lenses to create a panorama of 5120 × 1920 pixels, or 10 Mpx, with 180° horizontal and 65° vertical. The lower module films in 3840 × 2160 pixels, or 8 Mpx in 4K, with a field of 55° horizontal and 30° vertical.
The commercial mention of 18 Mpx adds these two views. It is not a single 18 Mpx image covering the entire scene. The same principle applies for the 360° coverage: the lower module rotates 350° and tilts 50°, its field completes the coverage when it moves; it does not film everything around simultaneously.
Permanent panorama and motion tracking
The tracking also seems very interesting as a complement to the panorama: a general view remains available while the lower module observes a target. This is a reason to consider this architecture for a garden or a driveway, without prejudging the accuracy of the tracking before a test.
SyncTrack coordinates the two modules: the panorama detects a target, and the lower module orients to follow it. Reolink announces that it can continue this tracking when the target exits the panorama. Auto Framing adds automatic cropping in the application. The sheet indicates a digital zoom, with a lower lens of 6 mm F1.6: do not count on a variable optical zoom.
Pinpoint allows you to quickly orient the camera towards a chosen area. Up to 64 preset positions, a guard position, and a patrol of four positions are announced. To take advantage of this, update the camera and application. The guide reserves the SyncTrack and Auto Framing settings for the application; the NVR screen offers SyncTrack, with restrictions for Auto Framing. The PC Client and web interface do not offer all these settings.
With a horizontal field of 55°, the lower module can provide a tight framing when the subject is close. Allow for some distance and check both views at the chosen location. The functions for forgotten or removed objects are also listed for this model, in beta, on the panorama only; their usefulness depends on the defined areas and firmware.
Detection and night vision
The camera distinguishes people, vehicles, and animals. The panorama also supports alerts for line crossing, entering a zone, and prolonged presence. These rules can be used to monitor a specific access, provided the zone and alarm actions are set. The lower module does not carry these perimeter rules.
For night, Reolink announces infrared up to 30 m and a color image with the active white LEDs. Eight LEDs, 7 W, and 6000 K are listed in the specifications; no luminous flux in lumens is given. The IR range does not specify at what distance a face will be identifiable. The lighting can improve visibility, but its actual effectiveness and reflections remain to be verified.
The microphone and speaker allow for remote conversation. Push notifications and email complement the surveillance. Audio quality, delay, and false alerts have not been measured on this model.
Local recording, with the right accessories
For a house equipped with several cameras, I recommend centralizing the recordings. I would prefer a compatible Home Hub for an individual: an NVR often seems excessive for an ordinary home installation. A very large house may justify looking at an NVR; for a professional installation, it’s the solution I would lean towards more. Several cameras can also operate separately: this centralization advice is not a technical obligation.
The microSD accepts up to 512 GB. Motion-activated, scheduled, and continuous 24/7 recording is documented. You can therefore choose local storage without subscription, planning for the appropriate card or recorder. The camera also announces FTP/NAS, H.264/H.265, and time-lapse.
Home Hub, Home Hub Pro, and certain Reolink NVRs are compatible, with firmware and hardware requirements. For RLN8-410, check particularly N7MB01; for RLN16-410, N6MB01; the NVR firmware must be 3.6.4 or later. The models RLN12W, RLN36, and RP-PN8/16 are also listed. Home Hub Mini is not confirmed in the consulted list. The PC Client does not offer dual display when the OMVI is added via NVR or Home Hub.
Local AI video search is announced for this model. For certain NVRs, its engine must be installed separately, and both devices must be compatible. The recognition of descriptions in French remains to be verified. The presence of RTSP and FTP does not guarantee, by itself, all functions in third-party NAS software.
Power supply and installation
I find its equipment quite complete. I generally prefer Wi-Fi to limit the passage of network cables, but here it is always necessary to connect the power adapter. Its usefulness therefore depends on your installation: a nearby outlet and good Wi-Fi can avoid running Ethernet. For PoE, a separate switch is not mandatory if you have a compatible injector or NVR.
Wi-Fi 6 operates on 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, with WPA/WPA2/WPA3. Bluetooth is used for initial setup from the application. The power supply of the WiFi model is exclusively DC 12 V/2 A via its adapter; the PoE version is a different model. Reolink announces a consumption of less than 24 W, without providing an average measurement.
The installation can be done on a wall, under a ceiling, or in a corner with a separately sold mount. The unit box includes camera, mount, adapter, 4.5 m power extension, and quick guide. The housing measures 202 × 151 × 125 mm and is rated IP66, from -10 to +55 °C. Plan for appropriate protection for the adapter and connections: the IP66 rating of the camera does not guarantee that of the entire installation.

Our verdict
Benefits
- Panorama maintained during lower module monitoring
- Continuous recording and local storage without subscription
- Perimeter rules on panoramic view
- Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth configuration
Disadvantages
- Permanent power supply required
- Digital zoom and 360° coverage by movement
- Different compatibilities and functions depending on firmware and interface
- Night quality and tracking accuracy not assessed
I find this camera quite comprehensive: its wide field of view appeals to me and the tracking feature can be very interesting. I see it outdoors, at home, for the garden and the parked camper van; not inside its cabin. Home Hub compatible for multiple cameras at a private residence; NVR to consider for a very large house or a professional. Wi-Fi avoids Ethernet but requires a power supply. Reception not confirmed, reviews on features without testing.
