Description
The SolarFlow 4000 Mix AC+ answers a specific question: how to add a large battery to an existing solar roof system without replacing the inverter? Its answer lies in a dedicated port, the PV-IN AC, which directly accommodates a single-phase rooftop inverter up to 5,000 W.
It features 8 kWh of LiFePO4 in a metal case on wheels, without a high voltage solar input: this role belongs to the 4000 Mix Pro.
Who is this device for?
It is primarily aimed at owners of a rooftop installation who want to keep their existing inverter and consume more of their production in the evening. Zendure refers to it as an upgrade that retains most of the original wiring.
It is also suitable for those planning to increase their capacity later, as the range claims up to 50 kWh. For a new installation without an inverter, the 4000 Mix Pro is more appropriate, as the AC+ does not receive the panel strings directly.
Key features to know
The battery displays 8,038.4 Wh in LiFePO4, which is 314 Ah at 25.6 V, with 10,000 cycles claimed at 70% remaining health and a round-trip efficiency of 90%. The case is IP65, usable from -20 to 55 °C, with charging possible only above 0 °C.
The indicated weight varies according to documents: 82 kg in the manual, 80 kg in the store FAQ. In any case, plan for two to three adults to lift it. The noise level is stated to be 25 dB at half charge and around 40 dB at full power.
The PV-IN AC port, and its limit in three-phase
This port distinguishes the device from the 3000 Mix AC+. It accepts up to 5,000 VA from a non-plug-in single-phase photovoltaic inverter, with a fixed connection via the supplied terminal. The total output of the system can then reach 5,000 W.
The benefit is evident during a power outage: if the inverter is connected through this path and configured in the system, Zendure indicates that it continues to charge the battery and power the off-grid output.
The term single-phase matters. A buyer posts on the Zendure store that with three-phase panels, he was unable to connect his production to the battery, which deprives him of part of the management in the app. If your installation is three-phase, confirm compatibility before ordering.
On socket, on dedicated circuit, or in advanced configuration
The 4,000 W from the socket requires careful reading. By default, the manual limits the power to 800 W, and to 900 W for France. A dedicated circuit is needed, with a 16 A circuit breaker and 2.5 mm² cable, to reach 3,000 W on socket.
The 4,000 W falls under a Premium setting, to be activated according to local regulations and by a qualified professional. The store FAQ places the maximum injection at 3 kW in plug and play and 5 kW in fixed connection, subject to local rules.
Extension and backup
An extension terminal is planned, and Zendure announces up to 50 kWh, with 10,000 W of charge and discharge once an additional battery is added. However, it must be clear: these batteries are not yet on the market according to the manual and FAQ, which mention an announcement in the fourth quarter, and older Zendure packs are not compatible.
On the backup side, the off-grid output provides 3,680 W continuously, with a peak of 7,200 W for 200 ms. As with the entire range, a single unit does not back up the entire home.
What buyers say
We have not had this device in hand. The 13 customer reviews published on the Zendure store are posted by the brand and should be read as such. PatriceV, with 8 kW of panels, particularly appreciates the charge and discharge settings with the 3CT meter. Frédéric Gendre writes that the battery charges in less than 4 hours with his panels. Another buyer describes a delivery on a pallet and advises having two people to place the device.

Our verdict
Benefits
- PV-IN AC port of 5,000 W to connect a single-phase rooftop inverter
- Up to 4,000 W bidirectional in advanced configuration
- Announced extension up to 50 kWh
- If the inverter is connected via PV-IN, it continues to charge during a power outage
- 10,000 announced cycles and 10-year warranty
Disadvantages
- The PV-IN AC port is aimed at single-phase inverters: a three-phase installation must check its compatibility
- Extension batteries not yet on sale at the time of writing
- Limited to 900 W in the UK without advanced configuration
- 82 kg according to the manual
The best balance of the range if you already have a single-phase solar roof. You keep your inverter and will be able to add capacity when extension batteries become available. In three-phase, check compatibility first.
