Description
The Reolink Argus MagiCam is a 2K (1080p) security camera, battery-powered and 100% wireless. Its ultra-compact action-cam format and strong magnet mean it goes up just about anywhere, at home as well as on board a van or motorhome.
Who is this camera for?
Compact and self-contained, it is as happy watching over a home as it is on board a van or motorhome. Battery-powered and wireless, it goes up in seconds where running a cable would be a pain, and its pocket format makes it easy to move from one spot to another as needed.
Image, night vision and detection: what it really sees
On the image side you are looking at 1080p, enough to make out a figure or read a plate in good conditions. Its infrared night vision gives a clean black-and-white image in the dark (no colour at night here, this stays an honest entry-level camera). Smart detection tells person, vehicle and animal apart, which cuts false alerts right down. Two-way audio lets you listen in and talk back from a distance.
Power: AA batteries, no proprietary pack
This is the camera’s big quirk: it runs on two AA lithium batteries (included, non-rechargeable), for a claimed battery life of up to 9 months. The idea is clever, no built-in battery that ages and eventually dies: when the batteries run flat, you swap them and you are away, which can extend the camera’s lifespan. You can also fit rechargeable AA batteries (slightly less runtime), or run it wired over USB-C for continuous recording. Note, however: unlike other Reolink models, the MagiCam does not take a solar panel.
Built to move: you place it anywhere
Its MagSafe-style magnetic mount is its real strength on the road: the moment there is a metal surface, you fix it and move it in two seconds (on the bodywork of a stationary motorhome, for instance, to watch a pitch or the entrance). Just keep one thing in mind for nomad use: being Wi-Fi, it needs a real network on board (a modem or router in the van); simply sharing your phone’s connection is not enough once you move away.
Storage, alerts and remote access
Local storage (microSD card up to 256 GB or a Home Hub), with no forced subscription to record. Everything runs from the Reolink app (and a browser): real-time notifications, live view and playback wherever you are. H.264 compression keeps file sizes down without giving up quality.
